Oh hiya!
You might be wondering who this new kid on the block is, but it’s me silly! Emma Lou!
I decided to rebrand a few months ago as I realised I’d grown out of By Emma Lou.
Let me explain a little…
The back story
I quit my corporate job back in April 2017 because, well, I hated it. I was living off microwave meals, dreamt about conversations I’d had the day before with my director, worked 12-hour days and brought it home with me every weekend, and my face aged about 5 years in 6 months. Trust me, there just ain’t a good enough moisturiser on the market to justify that.
I was burnt out. My partner missed his girlfriend; we had no quality of life, as I’d be too exhausted to do anything once I closed my laptop. It had to stop.
So I had that uncomfortable, awkward conversation with my (then boyfriend, now) fiancé and asked him if we could afford for me to quit, if he could afford to support me while I set up on my own, and if he would be comfortable in doing that.
I burst into tears when he said, “Em, we’re a team.”
On one hand it felt amazingly liberating and humbling to get out of there and have his full support, but on the other I felt like I was cheating somehow – getting an easy ride and letting someone else take the brunt for a while. (I’ll do another post on how I got over this feeling soon!)
So I quit. But to do what? I wasn’t 100% sure. I knew I wanted to work for myself. I knew I wanted to do something creative. I’d always liked drawing and the idea of being an illustrator, so that’s where I set my sights.
You see, coaching had always been in the back of my mind, but I always thought I’d need to be older, more mature, with more life experience before I could try my hand at it.
Until, I started to meet some amazing people through networking with other creatives in Bristol. I was doing well with my illustrations, got in a few retailers, had good sales and a few commissions, but it wasn’t quite fulfilling me. I found myself talking to lots of other girl bosses, indirectly coaching them, as they found many of the same things I did from being self-employed. A few suggested I should add coaching as a service to my business, so I thought hey why not… let’s give it a try!
Well holy smokes I wasn’t expecting this. I’ve had the great pleasure of working with some amazing women over the last few months, and some very kind feedback. I’m humbled and encouraged to make this my absolute priority now. As quite frankly, for the first time in my life, I feel like I’m doing what I’m supposed to.
So, as I’ve been focussing more on coaching, By Emma Lou was starting to feel like the wrong brand name. I chose it because it was meant to read like illustrations by Emma Lou. But now it doesn’t fit. It feels like a shell I’ve grown out of and it’s time to start a whole new adventure.
So here I am! The Lifestyle Coach.
Because lifestyle is what it’s all about for me. Business, career, family, friends, hobbies, money… everything falls into lifestyle. It’s how we choose to live our lives and it’s a choice many of us forget we have to make.
Its so easy to get caught up in the day to day, you can almost forget what it is you actually want from life.
It’s something so short and so precious, I wholeheartedly believe in making every moment count.
So! No more burn out, no more sleepless nights and no more microwave meals.
I’m dedicated to helping women change their anti self care routine, so they can start living each day like the absolute Goddess they are!
So if this is all tickling your fancy… I’ve created some skin-tingling, soul-nourishing brand new packages! They’re made to completely align with your new lifestyle focus.
The short version is, we’ll dive deep into your big vision, look at your anti self care routine, your mindset, your relationship with money and your work/life balance. You’ll create a realistically acheivable, actionable plan to start creating an all round happier life. While I’ll be supporting you, holding you accountable (in a nice way!) and keeping you on track every step of the way.
