If you’re anything like me, Instagram is either a great source of inspiration or a massive demoraliser. It’s so easy to get comparison syndrome and FOMO when we’re scrolling through, which can then make us feel like imposters and as though we’re not good enough to be here.
This feeling is so common it’s heartbreaking. We need to remember Instagram is only ever one part of the picture. Behind every account and every image are a million other unedited photos that didn’t make the cut, and a pile of admin and chores we don’t get to see. Mental illness and hardships are glossed over with sassy captions and nice filters. Always remember Instagram is never the full story, but it can be a wonderful way to get inspiration and have a little escape from said pile of admin and chores.
If you find instagram is not lifting you up and is instead bringing you down, quit the app. Put your phone down. Look at your hands and tell yourself this is real life, not that. Take a break and revisit later with a better perspective, and know to always take what you see with a pinch of salt
